South Farmers Company Limited is focused in the commercialization of agriculture in South Sudan through the development of nucleus farm and out-grower scheme where hundreds of farmers are being selected to specialize in the production of maize, sorghum and other stables where they enjoy number of benefits which includes training of farmers in good agronomic practices (GAP), running Demos, farming as a business, financial literacy, tractor hire services, input credit and collective marketing. The notion is to assist farmers produce enough cereal to bridge the food gap in the country and market to institutional buyers like World Food Program(WFP) and other NGOs in the country which will also improve the household income of farmers.
Our model of farming is developed around out-grower scheme where the company is now working with 500 smallholders farmers specializing in the production of maize; this number is expected to reach 2,500 farmers in the next three years in the region of Kajo-Keji, Central Equatoria. The notion is to produce enough cereal that will support the production of our chicken feed which is aiding our integrated poultry business by supplying feeds to our poultry farmers, and support the cereal marketing by supplying cereal to institutional buyers like World Food Program (WFP), Wholesalers and Retailers as well.
In an effort to empower our smallholder farmers in our out-grower scheme to enable them increase their output, we offer them the following: input credit, tractor hire services, training of farmers in good agronomic practices (GAP), running demos, farming as a business, financial literacy and collective marketing. We have seen farmers in our out-grower scheme becoming more productive and their household income rising. It is through this kind of model we will be able to unlock the mystery of low production in South Sudan.
